John N. Mitchell 1 st US Attorney General to be convicted of illegal activities and imprisoned. served as campaign director for the Committee to Re-elect the President, which engineered the Watergate first break-in and employed Watergate burglar James W. McCord. John Wesley Dean was White House Counsel to Richard Nixon. He was deeply involved in events leading to the Watergate first break-in and the Watergate scandal cover up, referred to as "master manipulator of the cover up", became star witness of the Watergate prosecution. Plumbers is White House Special Investigations Unit established during the presidency of Richard Nixon. Its job was to stop the leaking of classified information to the news media during the Nixon administration. Members worked for CREEP. Donald H. Segretti was a political operative for the Committee to Re-elect the President. Segretti ran a campaign of dirty tricks against the Democrats. His actions were part of the larger Watergate Scandal. Alexander Haig served as White House Chief of Staff during the Watergate affair. Haig played a large "crisis management" role as the Watergate scandal unfolded.
