Dr. Hachiya expected general headquarters to announce enemy invasion and order citizens to fight to bitter end b. Emperor broadcast that the war was lost c. People at the hospital stunned by surrender d. Expressions of anger unleashed, hospital turned into uproar e. Word surrender produced greater shock than bombing f. People handed out fliers saying to not surrender, continue the war 3. Problems, practical obstacles and concerns a. August 7, hospital crowded, no food, diarrhea, vomit, impossible to clean hospital i. Some people had eyes, noses, mouths, ears burned away ii.
