Body Composition Lab # 1 Purpose The purpose of this lab was to view the various ways to determine the percentage of fat that exists inside a person’s body. This was done by measuring and calculating Body Mass Index (BMI), girth measurements, waist-to-hip ratios (WHR), skinfold measurements, bioelectrical impedance, and hydrostatic weighing. Through all of these measurements, we were able to determine whether or not we were normal weight, over or underweight. Results a.) Data sheet attached b.) Out of the four percent body fat methods we tested, skinfolds, girth, hydrostatic and bioelectrical impedance, I feel as if the hydrostatic testing was the most accurate. The reason I think this is because after averaging all four methods, I got an answer of 10.71 which is closest to my calculated hydrostatic percentage of 10.89%. Going off of what I learned in lecture I also feel that this is the most accurate way to determine body fat because professor Girandola told us the percent error is only + or – 2-3%. As far as my
