11am Discussion Blood Revenge Chapter 4 Our idea of a feud tends to focus on the bitterness and longevity of an interclan conflict whereas Montenegrins, it could occur in a number of different contexts o Brief or protracted o Retaliatory killings or none at all o Taking vengeance as a solemn duty is the central focus. Very interesting how a female could not be killed for revenge. An old Montenegrin woman says that “it is not within our customs to take revenge for a man upon a female” To fail to retaliate homicidally in many contexts used to result in severe damage to one’s honor. The Montenegrins are not prone to forget a blood debt, they can remember it for hundreds of years. Chapter 5 Unbelievable how even though Montenegro has a legal system, the members of tribal society consider it to be a legitimate moral prerogative of an individual or group to take homicidal revenge for the death of a close relative. o
