Max Brown Gen Ed 111 Three Cups of Tea Three Cups of Tea Greg Mortenson’s book, Three Cups of Tea is about a man that single handedly changed the lives of many people in need . The book is a very inspiring story that shows how people can make a difference . The main theme of the book is, one man can single handedly change the lives of many different societies . From that theme, arise a few minor themes; inspiration to make a difference and the struggles a person must overcome . The book begins with Mortenson attempting to climb the second tallest mountain in the world, K2 . He is climbing this mountain to honor his sister, who died from a massive seizure. In her honor, Mortenson was going to climb to the summit and place her necklace in the snow . Upon his ascension, he acquired a problem, a hiker was in distress. He left his route to the summit and saved the troubled hiker . After saving the hiker, Mortenson realized he was lost and set off into the abyss . He grew weak, exhausted and tired, but somehow managed to make it to the Shiite Muslim village of Korphe . The Chief of Korphe, Haji Ali, welcomed Mortenson in with welcome arms . The village people slowly nursed him back to par. During the time he was in this village, Mortenson learned that the village people not only didn’t have schools, they had
