1 PGE 312 - FALL 2007 Physical and Chemical Behavior of Petroleum Fluids I Final Examination, 3 Hours It will be in your best interest to attempt all the questions. Please budget your time accordingly. Problem 1 (16 points) Fifty gms (50 gms) of a pure hydrocarbon is confined in a piston-cylinder vessel of volume 1000 cm 3 , maintained at a constant temperature of 200 F. The saturated liquid ˚ and saturated vapor densities of the hydrocarbon at 200 F are 0.45 gm/cm ˚ 3 and 0.05 gm/ cm 3 , respectively. The vapor pressure data for the pure hydrocarbon are given in Table 1. There will be no credit for guessing the correct answer without an appropriate explanation. c. If the pure hydrocarbon is expanded to a pressure of 100 psia at the constant temperature of 200 F, calculate the mass of liquid in the vessel in gms. ˚ d.. Using a dot ( . ), display the state of the hydrocarbon in part c on a P-V diagram at the fixed temperature of 200 F.
