Solve the non-linear equation f(x)=-0.9x 2 +1.7x+2.5 using 3 iterations each of the following methods (30 points) a. Fixed Point iteration with initial guess x =0.5 (use a formulation that converges!) b. Newton’s method with initial guess x=0.5 c. Secant Method with initial guesses x -1 =0.5 and x 0 =0.6 2. Create a function file called secant.m that when sent a MATLAB function file (containing a nonlinear equation) and two initial guesses it sends back the root of the nonlinear equation. You may want to look at the file named ‘bisection.m’ posted on blackboard as a starting point, but remember; the secant method is not a bracketing method (30 points). a. Test the secant method by computing the root of the parachute function.
