11/18/08 When could the myceneans have attacked the Trojans? Is it possible? Does it fit with the history of the myceneans already established? Some evidence includes some few spearpoints and pottery. But in general, theres not much weaponry at troy. Theres nothing really culturally specific. But the weapons were being traded all over the world. There was also some valuable jewelry that shoes some high level trade meaning there was probably more direct contact. The pottery is the bulk of our evidence. We don’t know if the greeks were trading it or if it was part of a network. They started to move out of mainland Greece and settle other places. The first place was the island of Crete. By the early 14 th century, myceneans are moving into crete and Rhodes and nearby islands. Theres about 23 sites that can be said are mycenean. Troy and that area was of no interest to the myceneans. They were mainly based below. But there was still stuff being imported there. By the 13 th century, the higher islands of lemons and Lesbos are being settled. They are expanding and its not a one time thing. It shows how its generational. Troy from quite early held a high place in mycenean thoughts. They were trading a lot with them early on. Some really high class pieces were imported.
