Three main methods used to evaluate how the brain works: 1) Evaluate changes in behavior or perception when a region is lesioned or removed. Record action potentials from individual neurons when stimuli are presented to an animal or the animal is engaged in some behavior. Evaluate the types of cells, how they are arranged and how they are connected in a region of the brain. he arrangement of various types of cells in a region of the brain is alled its neuronal architecture.
