Radioactive Speed Dating November 8, 2017 Lab Report Introduction: In this week’s lab, we conducted a virtual radiometric dating simulation. The purpose of this lab was to accurately estimate the age of several objects using the principles of radiometric dating as a guide. The software used for this lab was the PhET simulation Radioactive Dating Game. For this experiment, we used three different types of dating to make estimates: carbon, uranium, and custom. We learned how to differentiate between each of the dating types by applying the correct type to the corresponding object. Procedure: This lab consisted of three steps. The first step included open the simulation software on the computer. The second step instructed Earl and I to apply the scientific techniques offered on the software to estimate the ages of each object. There were eighteen objects total. The last step consisted of various steps within the initial. We were given a chart as a guide. A smiley face was awarded for every correct estimate. For every correct 6
