Mapping Exercise 6-1 1. You would expect the relationship between the number of women earning wages, a country’s urbanization, and restrictions placed on them to be positively correlated. In order to earn wages, it would make sense that women would not be restricted and face seclusion. Example of such countries include Morocco and Turkey. In a conservative society, you would be hard-pressed to find women holding jobs such as doctors, lawyers, or business men. If a country isn’t urbanized, it might suggest that it may still hold its conservative and cultural values close—being unaffected by globalization. This would make it much harder for women to earn wages in a restricted society. Examples of this can be seen in Israel and Qatar. 2. You would also expect to see a positive correlation between female literacy rates, the percentage of women who are earning wages, and the restrictions placed on women.
