It has been proposed to use isopropyl ether in a liquid-liquid extraction scheme to remove the contaminant. The feed wastewater stream has a flow rate of 1000 mol/min and contains15 mol % acetic acid. The amount of acetic acid must be reduced by 98%. Assume isopropyl ether is completely immiscible in water. The partition coefficient of acetic acid for this system, K A , is not a constant over all mole fractions. Equilibrium data are plotted in Figure 1.
