Genetics 10.1 Mendelian Laws -parents contribute equally to offspring -F1 generation doesn’t show recessive traits, but F2 generation generation shows recessive traits - Particulate theory states that units of inheritance (genes) retain their integrity in the presence of other units -each gamete has 1 unit, while zygote contains 2 - SS or ss is true breed -zygote of SS and ss is Ss; S is dominate because it’s expressed - two different forms of a gene (S and s) are called alleles - homozygous – 2 copies of the same allele (ss or SS) -hetrozygous – 2 different copies of each allele -physical appearance- phenotype -genotype- genetic construction 1 st law of Mendel - “The Law of Segregation states that when any individual produces gametes, the copies of a gene separate, so that each gamete receives only one copy” -2 copies of a gene separates -when an individual produces gametes, 2 copies of the gene separates -all of F1 generation has a copy of each gene -in F2 generation, ½ will be heterozygous (1/2 of each allele), ½ will be homozygous (1/4
