6 Process 1-2 A pump boosts the pressure of the liquid water entering the boiler. Requires energy input Process 2-3 Energy is added to the water in the boiler, forcing a temperature increase and a liquid/gas phase change. Energy source: combustion. Process 3-4 Energy is removed by expanding the high temperature, high pressure steam through a steam turbine. The output shaft of the turbine connects to the electrical generator Process 4-1 Low- pressured steam is returned to the liquid state through the condenser.
