Zoheb Noorani Todd Chapman Lab 6 Introduction: The purpose of this lab was to prove that Hook’s Law (F=-kx) can be applied to simple harmonic oscillations. The way we tested this was by using an air puck suspended between two identical springs on an air table. An electrical pulse generator was hooked up to the springs, and when the puck was set in motion, the generator will cause electrical arching between a metal post of the puck to a piece of white paper covered by carbon paper that is held just above the puck. The dots on the paper were used to measure the oscillations of the puck at equal time intervals ( t). I believe my data will confirm Hook’s Δ Law wave pattern of the type cos( t+ ) when the distance traveled by the puck is plotted ω φ against time. I also believe the lighter puck to have a shorter period. Conclusion: Upon completion of this lab we were able to confirm that Hook’s law can be applied to simple harmonic motion.
