Katherine Fox CSC 250 April 8 2009 Homework 2 Chimps and the Idea Of Intelligence Intelligence is the ability for a living entity to possess many related (or unrelated) abilities. Intelligence has long been disputed over. What does it truly mean to have intelligence? Is intelligence only applicable to humans? Only to animals? Mammals? Scientists have long labored over whether artificial intelligence carries the same meaning as intelligence when attributed to humans. A study conducted in 2008 presented yet a new way of viewing intelligence. The study paired a human and a chimpanzee in a game of concentration. As it turns out the chimp performed astoundingly better than any human. Could it be possible that chimps are more intelligent than humans? The idea that a person’s intelligence can be measured by means of a test is ridiculous. Too many human attributes are associated with the meaning of intelligence that the simple suggestion that a test can determine ones intelligent rating is somewhat demeaning.
