CHEM 1001 General Chemistry I Fall 2009 Section 102 MWF 10:00 am Instructor: Dr. Chae S. Yi Office: TW 619 Phone: 288-3536 E-mail: chae.yi@marquette.edu Office hrs: MW 4-5 pm, Tu 9-10 am or by appointment Textbook: Budge, Chemistry , McGraw- Hill Modular Laboratory Program in Chemistry (lab manual) Objectives/Goals: The central goals are to quantitatively describe/evaluate matter and its changes, to understand how molecular structure influence the properties and reactivity of matter, and to understand the fundamental laws governing the structure and reactivity of matter. Attendance Policy: Lecture attendance is strongly recommended since no written records on lecture materials will be available. Most of the exam questions will be based on the lecture materials and homework problems. Attendance in laboratory is mandatory . Generally, no make- up labs will be given without a legitimate and verifiable excuse. Exams: There will be four 50 min exams and one final exam (120 min). The hourly exam will be given during the class, and each will worth 100 pts (see the course schedule for dates and probable materials to be covered). The final comprehensive exam will be given during the assigned final exam period (see the course schedule) and will worth 200 pts. There will be no make- up exams under any circumstances- - students will automatically receive zero for the missed exam. To receive a waiver for the missed exam, student must submit a legitimate, verifiable and written statement to the instructor, and only if approved, the student’s final grade will be based on the remaining exam scores. Students should bring their own calculator and MU ID card; sharing a calculator is strictly prohibited during the exam period. No other electronic devices (e.g., cell phone, mp3 player, laptop computer, etc.) will
