MAE 355, Aerodynamics I Fall 2009 Homework Assignment 3 Handed out: 16 September 2009 Due: 23 September 2009 Problem 1 (10 points) A small unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) is on a surveillance mission and is flying at an airspeed of 30 mph. It is required to fly along a road bearing due North. There is a wind from the Northwest at 10 mph. In what direction will the UAV have to head (point) in order that the ground track of the UAV lies exactly along the road? What will the ground speed be for the UAV? Problem 2 (10 points) Let P 1 (x 1 ,y 1 ,z 1 ), P 2 (x 2 ,y 2 ,z 2 ), and P 3 (x 3 ,y 3 ,z 3 ) be the three vertices of a triangle in a 3 dimensional space, find the normal vector of this triangle. Note that the magnitude of this vector is the area of this triangle and its direction is perpendicular to the triangle, and is determined according to the right-hand rule for the movement along the path P 1 , P 2 and P 3 . Problem 3 (10 points)
