ADHD 22/04/2009 14:46:00 What is ADHD Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder ( AD/HD or ADHD ) is a neurobehavioral developmental disorder It is characterized by a persistent pattern of impulsiveness and inattention, with or without a component of hyperactivity . Three types of ADHD o ADHD, predominantly inattentive type DSM-IV—must have at least 6 of 9 criteria Fails to give close attention to details Difficulty sustaining attention Does not seem to listen Does not follow through on instructions o ADHD, predominantly hyperactive-impulsive type DSM-IV- at last 6 of 9 criteria Fidgets with hands or feet or squirms in seat Has difficulty playing quietly Runs bout or climbs excessively Has difficulty awaiting turn o ADHD, combined type o ADHD, NOS is a category for people who have some ADHD symptoms, but not enough to meet full criteria for the condition Causes ADHD is highly heritable o Twin studies
