A1: To begin the production of the film. 2 Types: original - a script written strictly for the screen adaptation : script that is sourced from some other form of media. o Loose adaptation o Close adaptation- (e.g. Atonement (2007)) o Strict adaptation 4 elements of a writer’s script: Types of Scripts: Director’s script: director writes the action he wishes to take place. The writer’s script: o Dialogue o Setting o Characters o Actions The text itself: Film: (3 rd iteration of a script) Published : From the screen Writing/Credit Credit: o Credit for script given to someone at a gamble. Why: Often many iterations of a script.

Script Construction: o Style: Determined by genre: Locks in certain myths/subjects, which may influence plot and circumstance Determined by Culture: Caters to society of time o Directors Influence: A strong director: Large influence on the script and screenplay. Primarily credited for the work. Director and producers have the control of the movie. Autuer: Rely on test audiences for scenes. Write and edit accordingly o Actors Influence: Determine the substance of a film’s writing. o Writer’s Influence: Money of last film determines a writer’s clout and esteem o Stage Writer ( difference ) : Has the sole control over the piece. Writing In General: Everyone in Hollywood sees themselves as a writer o Bad writing: “My mother is an alien” – Drew Casper Contributions -What does a writer givers us? “”When a writer can put words together he can heal the mind and hearts of his audience and give understanding.” – Drew Casper Title : Establishes meaning, theme, subject of the movie o Theme is the attitude the writer has about the subject
