Ancient Hebrews (1) 9-2-09 Introduction Era of small nations (1200-900 BC) Judeo Christian Tradition o Western civ is fundamentally Christian but Christianity is part of Judaism o Austria and France don’t think turkey is European because it is not based on Judeo-Christian Tradition Monotheism- one god Old Testament Scriptures Kept record of relationship with God A book of history o Traces evolution of Hebrews and their relationship with god o God works through human beings, therefore human actions are important because it someway reveals the presence of god Basic view of old testament is the history of the march of God in time Reason for studying history is that it revels the presence of god History as linear o History leads to something o Christ cam, leading to second coming, after second coming, history ends o Some believed history was cyclic, kept repeating itself Hebrews before Moses
