Political term c. Mesopotamia- greek for between the rivers (Tigris and Euphrates) i. Geographic term d. Agriculture i. Produced Emmer (wheat) which could be used to make foods like bread ii. Provides all nutrients need e. Neolithic age= new stone age i. Used axes to cut down trees 2. Civilization Emerges a. Population growth i. Requires sophisticated ways of preserving population b. Control of water i. No rain, got water from rivers to grow crops ii. Needed to built water control systems (levees, ditches), how? c. Leadership: the role of priests i. Emerged as early leaders ii. Shows that people believed in gods iii. Priests tell of visions from gods about ditches so the farmers follow them and dig ditches and the crops grow much better iv. The priests become leaders because farmers believed they were in touch with the gods...
