Compromise of 1877 1. In 1876, the republicans nominated Rutherford Hayes. Opponent was Gov. of New York. 1. Democrats won , and lost by one electoral vote. 2. 4 states counts were questioned, including Louisiana. 3. Commission of 15 members was set up to confirm votes, 8 republicans and 7 Democrats 4. All 4 states won republican 8 to 7 2. Democrats agree to accept Hayes as President if they pulled troops out of the south. 1. Ended reconstruction. 2.
