Virginia Lieu English R1B The Long and Short of It Tiffany Tsao March 19, 2009 The Significance of Children in Jhumpa Lahiri’s “Interpreter of Maladies” and “Sexy” Reflection In an effort to improve my essay, I inserted many sentences to tie the observations in my paragraph to my thesis statement. I agree with my peer editor and with Tiffany that I did digress much from the main argument, but I had many things to say so it was hard for me to narrow it down and fit it into the context of my thesis statement. Still, I believe that this essay was much easier than the first assignment and I feel that I am much more confident in my analytical skills after writing this paper. I changed my thesis to better encompass all the material I talked about in my paper. I made it a lot more specific, focusing not just on the power that females possess but also on the knowledge that they hold unknown to the other characters. My peer editor noticed that I quoted much of the short stories without actually analyzing them, making her wonder, “So what?” Thus,
