Lieu 1 Virginia Lieu Professor Laura Hubbard Anthropology 3AC 25 September 2008 Problems with Relatives After hours of extensive work on the kinship assignment, I am finally able to analyze the patterns and characteristics of my kinship chart. Both sides of my family emigrated from Vietnam to the United States but are Chinese. However, each part developed peculiar aspects different from the other. What I first noticed was the high number of divorce rates isolated on one side versus the other. After closer observation, I also saw a pattern in the language that indicates cultural ties. Finally, I saw the changes in numbers of children because of the immigration to America. The chart includes the languages that each person speaks. This was used to describe cultural ties and identity for each individual. For example, most of my father’s family speaks Vietnamese while my mother’s family speaks mostly Chinese, mainly Cantonese.
