Unformatted text preview: Body Ritual of the Nacirema- Professor Linton brought the ritual of the Nacirema in 1936- North American group whose origins is rumored to come from the east- Highly developed market economy because of a rich natural habitat- Ritual activities take up most of their time and resources o Focused on the human body and its ugliness and susceptibility to disease o Each household has at least one shrine devoted to daily ablutions Wealth of a family is determined by the condition and number of these shrines o Rites are kept private and never talked of, only to children when they are being initiated- The shrine contains a box filled with charms and magical potions that are from medicine men o Medicine men decide what ingredients patients need o Herbalists create the potions and charms o After being used, the charm is placed in the box where the Nacirema believe their presence will protect the worshipper- Every member of the family comes daily into the shrine and uses holy water and starts daily ablution...
