Body Ritual of the Nacirema - Professor Linton brought the ritual of the Nacirema in 1936 - North American group whose origins is rumored to come from the east - Highly developed market economy because of a rich natural habitat - Ritual activities take up most of their time and resources o Focused on the human body and its ugliness and susceptibility to disease o Each household has at least one shrine devoted to daily ablutions Wealth of a family is determined by the condition and number of these shrines o Rites are kept private and never talked of, only to children when they are being initiated - The shrine contains a box filled with charms and magical potions that are from medicine men o Medicine men decide what ingredients patients need o Herbalists create the potions and charms o After being used, the charm is placed in the box where the Nacirema believe their presence will protect the worshipper -
