2.0. Overall Description 2.1. Product Perspective In some software research institutes researchers would like to investigate how programmers use software tools such as Eclipse to program by tracking software events going both inside and software programs. Without tool support, examining through lines of Eclipse data can be very time consuming and inefficient, while the events outside of Eclipse are unrecorded, a Programmer Action Recorder, in particular, a Data Merger and Picture Access Module would ease this task. 2.2. Product Functions The data merger and picture access tool has two main functions, the first is to combine and convert picture data and raw Eclipse data into Timeline format, and the second is to output and display the Timeline data in a graphical interface, which provides API access to the pictures. //where users can make links between pictures and events by drag and drop pictures to the proper time line. The Timeline data records the time and the events occurred inside the Eclipse IDE. The time interval is defined as one second per unit. (More to be clarified by TA) A data merger consists of a parser to parse an input file of raw Eclipse data to an output file of Timeline data. If a link to a picture folder is also provided to the
