ECE-L301 Laboratory 1 Assignment 4 – Passive Filter Design Goal: Determine the circuit and components to achieve the desired signal filtering Pre-Lab Reading: Week 4 lecture notes Tutorial 4 Procedure: A voice recording system could use one or more filters to reduce low frequency hum (60Hz) and high frequency noise. Since the bandwidth of the human voice as carried by telephone systems is about 280 Hz to 3.3 kHz, we would like to set our filter corner frequencies (-3 dB points) to 250 Hz and 3.5 kHz. Derive an expression for the corner frequency of your high pass or low pass filter. Design an RC low pass filter to achieve a 3.5 kHz corner frequency or design an RC high pass filter to achieve a 250 Hz corner frequency. Component values must come from the list of available parts at the window. Note the differences between your calculated part and your actual part. Capture and simulate the circuit you designed. Verify that the circuit meets your goal.
