Walsh 1James WalshMrs. BoudreauLanguage Arts 8AOctober 10, 2019Diary Entry 1: April 1781My name in Deborah Sampson, I realized it was told that women were not allowed to enlist and fight in the war. I was determined to be a part of this so I traveled to Worcester, Massachusetts disguised as a man and enlisted in Captain Webb’s Company under the name Robert Shurtliff (Brooks, 2019. Because I came to Massachusetts so late, the infantry had already been placed in New York, so they sent me to fight as a light infantryman. I was more tired from fighting in the war, and not so much worried about dying. But I was able to fight in the war without being noticed that I was a woman. Diary Entry 2: July 3, 1782During this time I was shot in the leg by the fire of a musket rifle and got injured. I was involvedin many scuffles and received many injuries from that as well (Katz, 2019). I chose not to reach out or get medical help because they would find out I was a woman instead of who I said I was Robert Shurtliff.
