Switching and routing are complex tasks, Two basic categories, exemplified by the older telephone network and the Internet. Telephone network - makes a connection over a route, and signal flows steadily on the connected path. Digital form - a connection owns a time slot in a synchronized frame for each hop, and the data coming in is switched automatically to an outgoing line and time slot.
