3 What is a supply chain? First thought: Supply chain is the network of manufacturing and distribution sites that interact in order to procure and transform raw materials for producing finished goods to customers. Definition: A supply chain consists of all stages involved, directly or indirectly, in fulfilling a customer request; includes not only the manufacturing and suppliers, but also transporters, warehouses, retailers and customers themselves; within each organization, such as a manufacturer, the supply chain includes all functions involved in filling a customer request.
