Salem Witchcraft Trial 15:15 The Crucible Wipe 3 things out o Changed the name of Anne Putnam Jr.  o Changed Abigail Williams from 11 to a femme fatale Women began experimenting with voodoo with the help of witchcraft from a slave  women from Barbados(Tichiba) All the girls begin quarrels with older women Hysteria turns into a witch hunt Single out certain women as scapegoats o Girls began to attack powerful people including the governors wife o Caused the governor to stop the trials 20 were executed o WAS THE EARLY VERSION Contains errors Historians did not ask 2 questions What about accused men? What about people who were accused but not tried? Salem is based a lot on myths  o Believed 19 women were hanged

Actually 14 women and 5 men were hanged Myths o Tichiba was black or milato She was native American She was probably not from Barbados Most likely from the Spanish missions in Florida or Georgia Called a Spanish Indian Why did they think she was black of milato? In the 19 th  century, people didn’t know how many slaves were in  the northern colonies o Assumed they were all black Many Indian slaves o Tichiba led a fortune telling group No evidence Notions of the 19 th  century involving race If shes from the West indies, shes involved with voodoo o There was a fortune telling group Only evidence One of them engaged in a very common form of fortune telling used
