Nutrition Day 4 17:20 The Stomach Swallowing o Esophagus which is in a larger tube called the trachea Flap of tissue called the epiglottis which sits on top of trachea(open to  breathe, closed to eat) Heimlich Maneuver When food gets into the trachea Get the food out by pressing on the diaphragm o A choking person can’t ask for help! o Gently slat back o Touch receptors Back of your throat Initiates a series of movements throughout your GI tract o Peristaltic contraction Sequence of reflexes in the GI tract Relaxation in front of the bolus and contraction behind the bolus
