History 200 The American Experience STUDY SHEET SECOND EXAM Essay Questions – One of the three questions in Part I will appear on the examination. In Part II, two questions will appear out of which students will choose ONE. Be sure to begin with an introductory paragraph that summarizes your argument and provides specific evidence from lecture, reading, and discussion to support the points being made. I have put in italics some hints as to where to go on Blackboard and provided some additional terms. The references, however, are not exhaustive. Feel free to make reference to material that is not listed as there are other concepts or examples from lecture and reading that you could use. Part I – one of the questions below will appear on the examination (50%) 1. Explain briefly the conflicting ideas expressed at the beginning of the nineteenth century about how the U.S. should develop. Which viewpoint won out in the first forty years of the nineteenth century and how might the U.S. have been different, if the other view had prevailed? Discuss three differences. Have some familiarity with the two tables on % rural and % workforce agricultural and the intensive and extensive lecture slides all on Blackboard.
