ADOLESCENCE ADDICTION2Adolescence addictionAdolescence is very trying and sometimes frightening time. Everything is changing. These changes include physical, cognitive, social, cognitive and emotional development. In addition, they confront the challenges of difficult choices, schoolwork, peer pressure, and meeting their parents hopes and dreams for them. (Wong, Hall, Justice, & Wong Hernandez, 2015) Also, adolescents are faced with threats to their well-being. One of the major threats is drug experimenting which can lead to drug and alcohol addiction. Previous month, previous year, and lifetime marijuana consumption was steady among 8th,10th, and 12thgraders. During 2019, 6.6 percent 8th graders, 18.4 percent of 10th graders, and 22.3 percent of 12thgraders reported ingesting marijuana in the past thirty days. The percentages increased to 11.8, 28.8, and35.7 for usage during the past year. When asked how they consumed the marijuana, 84 percent of the subjects said they smoked it. (National Institute on Drug Abuse, 2019). According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse (2019), “Daily marijuana use, however, increased among 8thand 10thgraders. Daily use is defined as use on twenty or more occasions in the past thirty days and was reported by 1.3 percent of 8thgraders and 4.8 percent of 10thgraders and 6.4 percent of 12thgraders. These numbers represent an increase of 85.7 percent of 8thgraders and 41.2 percent among 10thgraders, compared to 2018.” According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse,” Lifetime, past year, and past month alcohol use and binge drinking continued to show significant five-year declines in 10thand 12thgraders. Past month use of alcohol was reported by 7.9 percent, 18.4 percent, and 29.3 percent of8th, 10
