Essay #1 Option A In our everyday lives we use nonverbal communication and almost everything we do. Nonverbal is a form of connotative meaning. Some examples are paralanguage, kinesics, haptics, proxemics, chronemics, and artifacts. The artifacts that represent me are mainly my clothes, my hair, my jewelry, and other things and objects that represent who I am. I tend to wear darker clothes such as leggings and a jacket on most days or black jeans and a darker colored top. I am a Monochromic person with polychromic tendencies. I am always early to meetings, parties and other gatherings, but I do not like having a set schedule and I would rather go with the flow. As for proxemics, I am a person who does not like people in my intimate space because it usually makes me uncomfortable. I tend to move away when people come closer but I enjoy sociopetal interaction when I’m in close gatherings. I also don’t enjoy or revel at the use of touch, or haptics, as I often feel uneasy with prolonged contact. If I’m with my friends I typically hug to say hello, and for my family I feel closer so I will most always hug them for a quick second. As for people I don’t know, I usually wave or shake hands, but all together I use more haptics when I’m with people that I feel closer to. I used to be very comfortable with touch, but I don’t enjoy being close as much anymore which most people know about me. Due to this my family doesn't expect me to make regular contact or, for example, sit very close to them while watching a movie. My body language reflects my personality and my mood at the current moment as well as how I normally feel. When I am happier my body will show it with a smile and other facial gestures, and when I am saddened, I have noticed that my posture slouches and I generally turn away from other people or fake a smile. I've always been very good at making iContact and shaking hands when I meet someone, as I feel that it is a sign of politeness and proper manners.

When I walk, I usually walk with purpose and a rather fast pace. As a matter of fact, people who walk slowly tend to irritate me and it will show on my facial expressions. I don’t typically do a lot of hand gesturing but when I do it’s usually with a wave or a thumbs up. I really enjoy scuba diving so in a sense kinesics is used a lot underwater. There is it’s own sign language which is hand movements and body language. As for paralanguage, my voice is used as an instrument to
