RUNNING HEAD: Final Debate 1st Constructive 1Final Debate 1st Negative Constructive Title: Today I will be talking about whether or not the death penalty should be abolished.
Final Debate 1st Constructive 2Attention Getter: Lisa M Montgomery has been on death row for 10 years. On an internet chatroom, posing as a pregnant woman, Montgomery befriended mother-to-be, Bobbie Jo Stinnett. Montgomery claimed she wanted to buy Stinnett’s dog, and arranged to meet with her. Montomery then strangled Stinnet, cut her open. and stole her unborn child while she was still alive. Stinnett died later on. As for Montgomery’s mental state, she had planned her crime well inadvance, had raised four children of her own, and was deemed by doctors to be sane. The death penalty is reserved for the most horrendous crimes, and in my opinion this fits the requirement. Specific Purpose: The purpose of this speech is to persuade you as to why the death penalty should not be abolished.Central Thesis: The death penalty should not be abolished as it is not immoral, and it is more cost effective than life in prison.Main Point I: First I will state the two issues regarding the death penalty debate, which are morality and costs. Main Point II: Next, I will address those issues and the cause and effect on society. Main Point III: Finally, I will explain why the death penalty should stay as is.Credibility/expertise: After examining both sides of the arguments, I have determined that the death penalty is more beneficial to society.Transitional Sentence: The two problems surrounding the death penalty are that the opposition feels it is immoral and too costly to maintain. However, I am here to point out why the death penalty is not immoral and why it is more cost effective.Main Point I: (Defining the problem): My first point is that while the opposition to the death penalty argues that it is immoral, I would argue that when people purposely take the life of

My second point is that it is more cost effectiveto use the death penalty rather than holding someone to life in prison.Sub-point A: (what is the problem in Society) Issue #1: The first issue I am going to discuss, is why the death penalty is not immoral.Sub-point B: (supporting sentence): Those facing the death penalty in the United States have committed the most brutal and conscienceless murderers. The capital punishment system does not randomly choose an unlucky few for the ultimate penalty. The capital punishment system selects the worst of the worst.
