The death penalty is one of the most severe methods of punishment that is though to bring the ultimate justice of murder to society. However, the death penalty itself is cruel and violate the value of human life if it is wrongfully executed because of the flaws of the justice system. The case of Cameron Todd Willingham is one of the examples of why capital punishment should be reconsidered and be abolished for its immorality and unfairness to take away the life of an innocent. The first thing to be re-examined in capital punishment is its justification of retribution to a crime, especially murder. The death penalty has long been used as a way to punish the guilty of murder. It is a powerful, yet double-edged verdict of punishment. The principles of retribution for a crime is that a criminal should pay for what he or she deserves.
