Dear Bryan Doyle,
For me “Joyas Voladoras” is a fascinating essay that depicts the reality of the human heart
in such a beautiful and poetic way. As I read and re-read your essay I notice that you answer
questions in the beginning of the essay, but suggest the questions until the last paragraph of the
essay. For example, in the second paragraph you write about how hummingbirds must rush in
search for sweet nectar or their hearts will grow cold, “
if they are not soon warmed,
if they do
not soon find that which is sweet, their hearts grow cold, and they
cease to be.”.
That sentence
answers in a metaphoric way the question the reader asks him/herself on, how not “live alone in
the house of the heart.”, mentioned in the sixth paragraph. Analyzing the text, I see the
relationship between humans and hummingbirds; Humans must be like hummingbirds, they must
