The legal union of a homosexual couple has been in political debate for years. While many push for the full rights of gay marriage, based on the argument that all humans are equal and by denying two individuals the right to marry you are taking a way a right that is intended for all people, numerous others feel that marriage is both legally and/or spiritually defined as the union between a man and woman. Because this is such a hot political topic, it will force anyone running for political office to take an official side, rather than walking the fence. This holds true for no other office more than that of the Mayor at this time. Because Mayors are permitted to perform marriages and civil unions, their personal views now begin to conflict with their mayoral responsibilities. Part of the laws passed forces the Mayor of every town to make a choice: perform civil unions and marriages, or perform neither. Now candidates for the Mayoral position in any given town must make a definite stance on this hot-button topic. Many have chosen to perform neither based on
