The Age Of Exploration project: Christopher Columbus and a map that Columbus used By: Abdellatif Mazouzi Room: 5-3 Original topic: Christopher Columbus Christoforo Columbo also known as Christopher Columbus was an Italian-born explorer who was born in Genoa and lived from 1451-1506. His father was a weaver and he had two brothers. As a child he had little education and learned to read and write only as an adult and so, he went to sea, like many Genoese boys and sailed in the service of Spain. In 1492, with King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella’s permission, Columbus left Spain in the Santa Maria, with the Pinta and the Niña along side. He has been credited for opening up the Americas to European colonization He is also usually described as the discoverer of The New World. Even though he was looking for a westward route to Asia (by sea), the discoveries he did make would later be proven more important and valuable than the route he failed to find.
