(3) It’s because the type of data drives the analysis.   The appropriate classification of data is fairly clear and may help choosing the correct statistical method for analyzing the data. The choice of what statistical method to apply to data depends on the classification of variable types, and a judgment error on this point will result in flawed conclusions.
