Three Stages of Nazi Economic Policy Economic Ministers: Hjalmar Schacht (1933-1936) The New Plan Goals: Eliminate unemployment Groups not counted in unemployment rate Jews Married women RAD young men who would do public service projects Prisoners People in concentration camps Convince big businesses to work with Hitler Businesses were hesitant due to Hitler’s history of supporting workers not businesses and the fact that his party is still called the National Socialist party Will start to work with these businesses to rebuild war industry Fix trade imbalance There were more imports than exports Will try to be fixed by creating bilateral trade agreements and regulate imports Also called “Battle for Work” If men did not have a job after all of these “opportunities” were given, they would be thrown in jail Schacht will officially resign in 1937, but will lose control over the economy in 1936
