Social networks have been on an upward growth in the past decade or so as more and more of them have been released, upgraded, and become widely adopted. There are numerous examples of successful social networks- but we will base our discussion around Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn- all “successful” and unique in their own ways. A good measure of success is how actively users engage with a network- wecan track how many minutes every day the average person uses the specific site. Twitter is reported at 7 minutes a day, Instagram is 11 minutes a day, and LinkedIn came in at a low 1 minute per day for average usage (Laudon 2018). However, there can be many factors that contribute to this usage, so it is important to get a more overarching view of the site, its mission, and its usage to make the best judgment. Twitter is a very popularly used application amongst young adults- qualified as a general community, it allows users to publish their thoughts as “tweets” containing up to 280-characters, with the added ability to reply and interact with one another.
