The history of American education: A great American experiment. Upper Saddle River, NJ: Pearson Education, Inc. PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES : This recitation is a supplement to the lectures; its’ purpose is to provide you with additional learning opportunities to those you will experience in the larger lecture settings. Recitation is not a time to repeat what has already been covered in lecture sessions, but rather a time to expand on and to explore issues in the philosophy and history of education. Toward that end, much of the discussion will be based on the questions at the end of each chapter of the textbook, including questions from the primary reading. These discussions are designed to deepen your understanding of the lecture material, as well as, to present an opportunity for students to hear differing viewpoints. REQUIREMENTS : Attendance/Participation : Attendance will be taken each class meeting. If you miss a class, contact your instructor prior to the class session, if possible. Otherwise, contact him as soon as possible after you miss the session, but no more than three days following your absence (weekends included). Excused absences will be considered at the instructor’s discretion and will require appropriate
