Elder abuse in America, and around the world, is a social problem that may not be recognized. What has been done in the past, in your own state, or in another part of the world to educate, prevent, or mitigate the effects of elder abuse? Have these solutions been effective? Example 1: Elder abuse can refer to physical, emotional, and sexual abuse as well as exploitation, neglect and abandonment (No Author). This can come from anyone really but most commonly comes from the children or family members of the elderly person. Although that is what is most commonly seen it can also come from caretakers, and people who assist them medically. The things that can make them the most vulnerable are altered mental states (like dementia or Alzheimer’s) or social isolation which both of these can cause the elderly person to think and process things differently from someone younger.
