Chapter 4 Solution Stoichiometry A solution is a homogeneous mixture of two or more substances; in CHE 101 water will be the major substance (the solvent) and the minor substance(s) is the solute(s). A. Solution Concentration The amount of solute in water is measured by the molarity. Allows us to examine quantities using solutions (solution stoichiometry). M = moles solute h solution molarity = moles solute volume of solution in liters
Examples: 1) What is the molarity of the solution when 23.4 g of Na 2 SO 4 is dissolved in water to make 125 ml of solution? 2) How many moles of HCl are in 200 ml of a 0.10 M solution of HCl in water?
