Relationships 15:40 Duck’s (attraction) Filtering theory Every person we come in contact with is a potential close personal  relationship  Sociological or incidental cues (proximity factors) Pre interaction cues (appearance, artifacts (clothes, car, slogans on shirt) Interaction cues (conversational quality, reciprocation) Cognitive cues (similarity, complimentarity) o At this stage we get to know the person Relational development through self-disclosure Social penetration theory: breadth and depth What is self disclosure? o Something a person wouldn’t know any other way but you telling them o Has to do with feelings more than facts—something significant from their  past o Current o Involves risk Makes you vulnerable- because if they know your secret if gives them
