Peter Zawel Homework #2 3/8/09 A Relationship is defined as “a relation between people”. I believe that due to networking sites like Facebook and MySpace, as well as text messaging and AIM, the definition of a relationship has changed forever. Forty years ago the only way to start a relationship with a person would be to speak to that person face-to-face. Who knew that forty years later, people would find their spouses and friends through sites such as Facebook, MySpace, eHarmony, and Match.com? Times have drastically changed since the new day and age of technology, giving people a new way to interact with each other. Nowadays, it’s normal to have relationships with people that you have never met in person; in a way technology has altered the way we define relationships. Also, the idea of self-disclosure, which is the “voluntary revealing of information that would normally be unobtainable in interpersonal relationships” has completely changed with virtual communication.
