Kendra EckJanuary 16, 2020M02—TED Talk by Sarah Kay – “If I Should Have a Daughter”After watching the TED Talk video of Sarah Kay’s “If I Should Have a Daughter”, Sarah Kay’s specific purpose was to persuade the audience to inform the audience and listeners about how impactful spoken words can be, and to educate how one can share their spoken poems. Kay’s central idea was to educate the audience on how spoken poetry is a way to tell a story, express yourself, learn new things, make connections and speak about your own life and experiences. In the beginning, Kay’s audience is parents, maybe specifically parents of girls. She goes into speaking and talks about how important spoken word poetry is such a good thing and how everyone should try to connect with it and express themselves. I feel that the main, targeted audience is people who want to or may be interested in becoming a poet, writer, speaker, or who just have interest in it.
